This unit is to be completed online through Connect Learning Management System by the end of your CoST course. * HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. Delivery of the HLTAID011 unit will be completed outside of the 5 day block delivery. Students may attend scheduled classes offered by TAFE Queensland or may apply for credit transfer if they have completed the unit through another Australian Registered Training Organisation. For students requiring the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid unit, please contact Client Services on 1300 308 233 (option 5) for course dates. A student who does not have the HLTAID011 First Aid unit at the completion of their course will not be eligible for their qualification. If you have already completed the HLTAID011 First Aid unit you must provide a current academic transcript to show you have completed the unit.
This course will give you the skills to follow security procedures, prevent and fight fires on a ship, and survive at sea in the event of vessel abandonment. Our highly experienced team of industry professionals will give you the one-on-one guidance you need to confidently adhere to safety requirements in a maritime environment.
The Certificate of Safety Training is an STCW AMSA (Australian Maritime Safety Authority) approved five-day short course that covers required skills and knowledge necessary to enable application to AMSA for the issue of a Certificate of Safety Training please see https://www.amsa.gov.au/qualifications-training/international-qualifications/certificate-safety-training. Successful completion of the licence will enable holders to work on board commercial vessels and luxury yachts in Australian and International waters.
You must be a minimum of 16 years of age and be medically fit to complete all tasks.
Assessment will include written tests and practical demonstration of skills.
STCW Sections covered:
Personal Survival Techniques Section A-VI/1-1, Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities Section A-VI/1-4 and Basic Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting Section A-VI/1-2, Security Awareness Section A-VI/6-1.
What can I do?
Luxury Yacht Worker, Commercial Vessel Worker.
It is recommended that you have access to a reliable internet connection to access TAFE Queensland's online learning system Connect, and a computer with up-to-date software, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat Reader and Adobe Flash Player. This equipment and software is available for use at all TAFE Queensland locations.
You are responsible for meeting the minimum occupational health and safety requirements in practical classes. This includes having access to and wearing appropriate attire including non synthetic/flammable clothing, safety glasses (supplied), and enclosed shoes. You will not be permitted to attend any classes without appropriate footwear. For wet drills you also require clothes to get wet in (closed in footwear and socks (runners are suitable), long sleeve shirt and long pants (or overalls), a second set of clothes (to change into), a towel, swimmers, sunscreen, and hat. For fire drills you require a long sleeve shirt, long pants, sunglasses and enclosed shoes.
