Under the terms of the ISPS Code, shipping companies are required to designate a Ship Security Officer. This course is designed to provide instruction and proficiency in compliance with the ISPS Code for Ship Security Officers.

Minimum age requirement is 16 years.
No specific entry requirements are contemplated. However, to obtain a Certificate of Proficiency as Ship Security Officer, the trainee should have obtained approved seagoing service as mentioned in STCW Regulation VI/5.
Assessment will include written tests and practical demonstration of skills.
No specific resources are required to successfully complete this course.
