GBRIMC offers an extensive range of short courses that lead to internationally recognised certificates issued by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

Our training complies with the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (IMO STCW).

Short courses can be customised and tailored to suit individual or company requirements. We are flexible in our approach to training, with delivery on-site at the GBRIMC or off-site at an agreed location.

Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) Revalidation

Keep your skills fresh with TAFE Queensland North and Great Barrier Reef International Marine College (GBRIMC). 

This course complies with Marine Orders Part 70 – Seafarer Certification – Provision 21A and 21B, where requirements for revalidation of a GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GOC) specify completion of an approved revalidation course and relevant competencies from STCW Table A-IV/2.

Successful applications will be entitled to apply for renewal of their Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) GMDSS (GOC).

Marine Radio Operator's VHF and HF Skill Set

This course covers the skills and knowledge necessary to undertake the external examination required to obtain a Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP) issued by the Office of Maritime Communications (OMC).

If you intend travelling on offshore coastal voyages, or are applying to AMSA for a Certificate of Competence as a Coxswain, Master < 24 or Master < 35, you should obtain an LROCP Certificate which incorporates knowledge of both Medium Frequency/High Frequency (MF/HF) Radios, designed for long range transmission, and VHF radios.
